Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has left the investigation into the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) helicopter crash in Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah, on July 10 to the relevant authorities. Minister Chang Lih Kang stated that despite the crash occurring during the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM) 2025, the ministry is not involved in the investigation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Chang clarified that the incident took place during a rehearsal for a MOSTI programme, but the ministry is not responsible for conducting the probe. ‘It happened during a MOSTI programme rehearsal, but we are not part of the investigation. It’s not under our purview,’ he told reporters at the launch of the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI) in conjunction with MyBlockchain.
On July 10, MOSTI had announced its willingness to fully cooperate with the authorities in the investigation of the crash, which occurred around 10.15 am near the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) jetty during the MITSATOM 2025 exercise. This exercise is a joint nuclear security initiative involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, held under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025.
The MITSATOM event was organized with Atom Malaysia serving as the chair of the ASEAN Network of Regulatory Bodies on Atomic Energy under the ASEAN Political-Security Community Strategic Plan. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail previously reported that two victims were critically injured and are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor.
