Kuala lumpur: A framework for sustainable data centres is expected to be introduced this October, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. In a post on X tonight, he stated that the framework will be under the Ministry of Digital’s purview and will involve strategic coordination with all relevant agencies and state governments for the implementation of data centre development.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the agreement on the framework was reached during the third meeting of the Data Centre Task Force (DCTF) for 2025, co-chaired by Tengku Zafrul and Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) is set to serve as the focal point for all applications regarding new data centre projects and expansions.
The framework aims to ensure that initiatives and projects proceed smoothly, avoid duplication of functions, and support the development of a sustainable and strategic national data centre ecosystem. Tengku Zafrul em
phasized the meeting’s importance in making Malaysia’s data centre industry more sustainable, competitive, and investor-friendly.
The DCTF is a multi-agency strategic platform led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Digital to coordinate the planning and implementation of data centre projects comprehensively.
