MOH Alerts Public on Unverified Hydrogen Inhaler Benefits

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has advised the public, particularly older people, to be cautious about unproven claims concerning the health benefits of hydrogen inhalers or hydrogen machines. The ministry emphasized that these devices have yet to receive approval from the Medical Device Authority (MDA), highlighting the importance of registering all medical devices sold or used in Malaysia under the Medical Device Act 2012 (Act 737).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MOH stated that the sale, distribution, or advertising of unregistered devices is illegal and may lead to enforcement actions. This caution was issued in a statement on the social media platform X, where the ministry also shared a video clip linked to the sale of a hydrogen inhaler, which is claimed to be a remedy for heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

The MOH warned the public to be vigilant of sales activities that employ high-pressure tactics or emotional appeals to target consumers. They urged individuals to verify the registration status of any medical device on the MDA's official website before making a purchase to avoid fraud or potential adverse effects.

Furthermore, the public is encouraged to report the sale of unregistered devices or misleading advertisements to the MOH or MDA. They are also advised to consult registered medical practitioners for guidance on health matters, ensuring that they remain informed and protected from dubious health claims.
