KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) today launched the Duta Sahsiah Kit, a government initiative aimed at fostering character development among students and addressing discipline issues in schools. The nationwide launch, which involved 10,235 schools, 146 district education offices (PPD), 16 state education departments, and nearly five million students, was officiated by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek at the HGH Convention Centre in Sentul here.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative is a continuation of efforts by the MOE and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), which introduced the Duta Sahsiah Pemangkin Pembentukan Karakter Karamah Insaniah programme in October last year. Speaking at the event, Fadhlina emphasized that the Duta Sahsiah Kit aims to empower students appointed as ‘duta sahsiah’, who serve as positive role models by promoting values such as discipline, integrity, and responsibility to influence their peers positively.
Fadhlina elaborated that the kit has been developed th
rough careful planning and contains numerous training modules and reference materials, which cover aspects of communication, leadership, and problem-solving. Additionally, the kit includes posters, flyers, and activity cards to engage students in a creative and effective manner.
The Education Minister expressed hope that the kit will encourage students to adopt values like integrity, responsibility, and respect as the foundation of their decisions and actions, particularly in light of rampant social problems. She voiced her concern over issues such as suicide, mental health, bullying, and sexual harassment, highlighting the influence of information technology and social media in exacerbating these issues.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad expressed PDRM’s full support for the initiative. He noted that PDRM had developed a crime awareness module addressing issues like sexual offences and gangsterism among children and teenagers,
hoping it would complement the initiative.
