Kangar: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to addressing literacy and numeracy issues among students nationwide, which are also key priorities under the Malaysian Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026-2035. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh emphasized the ministry's dedication to ensuring quality educational services and equitable access to education facilities for all students.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wong highlighted that literacy and numeracy have always been central to the MOE's agenda. The Malaysian Education Blueprint 2026-2035, launched in January, incorporates these aspects into its comprehensive plan. Wong acknowledged the support from the royal decree of His Royal Highness the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, which was expressed during the opening ceremony of the new Perlis State Education Department building. This event was attended by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
The Raja of Perlis emphasized the need for a focused approach to addressing literacy and numeracy issues to ensure students master fundamental skills such as reading, writing, and arithmetic from primary school onwards. Wong also mentioned that the construction and upgrading of educational infrastructure in Perlis demonstrate the MOE's ongoing commitment to enhancing education quality in the state.
This year, 35 projects are being implemented in Perlis with an allocation of RM73.79 million. These include 10 new projects under Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and 25 ongoing projects. Of these, 24 projects involve construction or upgrading works, five involve land acquisition, and six involve the procurement of equipment and facilities.
Wong reported that Phase 1 of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School construction, featuring comprehensive sports facilities, is progressing well and is expected to be completed by January next year. The scope includes an administration block, an academic block with 12 classrooms, a canteen, hostels, a dining hall, a main grandstand, an archery range, a covered open court, a multipurpose badminton hall, an eight-lane synthetic track, a football field, and other facilities built to standard specifications.
Additionally, the government has approved RM104 million under RP1 of the 13MP for the construction of Phase 2 of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School.
