“Mobile Reproalert” Launched To Educate Youth On Reproductive Health

Kuala lumpur: An interactive vehicle, Mobile ReproAlert, has been launched to provide reproductive health education in an effort to prevent social issues such as unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative is a collaboration between the Malaysian Muslim Medical and Health Practitioners Association (I-Medik) and Sime Darby Foundation (YSD). It features a mobile vehicle equipped with multimedia displays, youth-friendly reference materials, and private counselling spaces.

YSD chief executive officer Dr. Yatela Zainal Abidin stated that the vehicle will visit schools, public housing programmes, and rural communities nationwide to tackle these social issues. She highlighted that over 4,000 teenage pregnancies are recorded annually in Malaysia, with many affected youths dropping out of school. Dr. Yatela emphasized that this is not just a health issue but also a concern for education and life opportunities.

The launch event was officiated by Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Dr. Yatela further mentioned that the programme aims to empower youths to make informed choices, build confidence, and improve reproductive health awareness among parents.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wan Azizah, who is also the Prime Minister’s wife, expressed concern over youths facing unhealthy lifestyles, social problems, and mental health issues. She noted that with both parents often working, effective monitoring is challenging. She praised Mobile ReproAlert as a commendable initiative that should reach those in need.

Dr. Wan Azizah also called for special attention to health and education in the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency under the 2026 Budget, following the outcome of a community engagement session today. She stressed that the budget must reflect the people’s real needs, with human development as a priority.
