Melaka Digital Village Initiative Nears Completion, Says Ab Rauf

Melaka: The Melaka Digital Village initiative is set to be completed within six months, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He announced that 657 villages in Melaka will undergo a digital transformation, equipping residences with new addresses and QR codes to enhance address tracking and accessibility.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative aims to provide accurate addresses, complete with location details, the homeowner’s name, and information about the village. This transformation is expected to help the state’s administration deliver more effective services to the grassroots level. Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh shared these details during the People’s Representative for the People (WRUR) programme at Kampung Guan, where he was seen affixing Digital Village stickers to several homes.

The event was attended by notable figures, including state secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad, senior executive councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin, state executive councillor for Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan, and Kuala Linggi assemblyman Datuk Rosli Abdullah. In Kampung Guan alone, 178 houses will transition to the Digital Village system, moving away from the traditional mileage-based address system.

Households that complete this process will have the opportunity to update their identification cards at the National Registration Department free of charge. The new addresses will also appear on land titles, vehicle registration documents, banking addresses, and other relevant records, ensuring a comprehensive update across various official documents.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil previously highlighted the RM3.37 million allocation for the Melaka Digital Village as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to transforming traditional villages within the state. During the WRUR programme in the Kuala Linggi constituency, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh mentioned that 150 complaints had been received, covering development, education, and sports areas. He noted that the programme and the provided allocations had enabled the state government to achieve 40 key accomplishments, including the repair of the Kuala Linggi Community Hall at a cost of RM30,000 and the construction of the Kampung Guan Community Hall, worth nearly RM1 million.
