Meishan Satellite Industry Conference Highlights City’s Growing Role in Sector

Meishan: The Third Meishan Satellite Application Industry Development Conference officially commenced in Meishan City, Sichuan Province, uniting experts in aerospace, remote sensing, and international cooperation. The event was designed to advance Meishan’s burgeoning role in the satellite sector, with a focus on innovation, industrial coordination, and global collaboration, as stated in an official release.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the conference was jointly sponsored by the China Association of Remote Sensing Application and the People’s Government of Meishan City, with additional support from regional industrial and investment groups. A significant highlight of the opening ceremony was the release of the 2025 Blue Book on the Development of China’s Remote Sensing Application Sector by the China Association of Remote Sensing Application.

Prominent scientists, including Li Deren of Wuhan University, Zhu Ninghua from Nankai University, and Xu Ying of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered keynote speeches. Meishan-based Huantian Wisdom Technology introduced its platform ‘StarView Horizon’, which integrates more than 40 core spatiotemporal algorithms. The company also entered into cooperation agreements with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Kazaerospace, and Malaysia’s Karuna Group to promote satellite application projects jointly.

Meishan has emerged as a satellite industry hub, hosting the largest cluster of commercial remote sensing satellites in Southwest China. The city ranks fourth nationally in satellite deployment, utilizing remote sensing technology in agriculture, environmental protection, disaster management, and smart city planning.

A long-term vision was outlined in Meishan’s 2024-2030 satellite industry development plan, aiming to establish a globally competitive industry cluster valued at over 10 billion Chinese yuan (approximately US$1.39 billion) by 2030. A significant milestone was achieved with the full launch of the Western China Satellite Industrial Park on December 30, 2024. During the conference, nine new enterprises joined the park, increasing the total to 26 satellite-focused enterprises and five scientific research platforms. The park is projected to surpass five billion Chinese yuan in industry output by 2028.

Further strengthening its infrastructure, Meishan is preparing to open the Huantian Cloud Smart Computing Center, the largest commercial satellite data center in Southwest China. This facility aims to address sector-wide challenges in computing, storage, and data efficiency.
