MCMC Receives 463 Requests to Remove False Content on Supply Crisis: Fahmi

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has received 463 requests from the public to remove false content related to the global supply crisis as of 7 am today, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced. Fahmi, who serves as a spokesperson for the MADANI Government, stated that all requests have been forwarded to the respective social media platform providers for further action in accordance with existing procedures.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Facebook recorded the highest number of complaints with 185 requests, followed by TikTok with 142 and Threads with 131. Out of the 463 requests, 65 investigation papers have been opened. One case has been decided by the Attorney General's Chambers for prosecution, five cases have been recommended for compounds, and the remaining cases are still under investigation, Fahmi revealed during a briefing on the global supply crisis and a post-Cabinet meeting press conference.

The most frequently reported false content involves fuel prices and toll rates linked to the Strait of Hormuz. Fahmi emphasized the importance of practicing the principle of tabayyun, or verifying information, before sharing it, especially in sensitive situations that directly impact the economy and public well-being.
