Two Killed, One Injured After Car Hits Tree In Rompin

Kuala lumpur: Two people were killed and another injured after the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a tree at Km 134 of the Kuantan-Johor Bahru Road in Rompin tonight. Rompin District Police Chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi reported that the driver, R. Vijay, 27, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Rompin Hospital, while the rear-seat passenger, P. Vijayan, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, another passenger, M. Tanush Kumar, 16, who was seated in the front of the vehicle, sustained bodily injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that the three men were traveling from Rompin towards Kuantan when the vehicle is believed to have lost control before skidding and crashing into a tree on the left roadside.

Sharif Shai stated that initial investigations indicated the accident was believed to have been caused by the driver's negligence. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Post-mortems on the deceased victims are scheduled for 9 am tomorrow at Rompin Hospital.
