kuala lumpur: The results of the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) should be considered beyond just the statistics and global rankings, according to Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek. She emphasized the significance of family relationships within the national education ecosystem, highlighting the crucial role of parental support in the emotional and academic development of children.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina pointed out that the fast-paced nature of modern life often leads parents to miss out on important interactions with their children. Despite the demands of work and daily life, she urged parents to consciously dedicate time and attention to their children. Fadhlina shared insights on the fleeting nature of childhood and the importance of engaging with children during their formative years.

She further noted that education extends beyond the classroom, with the home environment providing essential support, such as comfort after difficult days and opportunities for children to share their experiences. The minister acknowledged the challenges faced by Malaysian students, noting their strong curiosity and resilience, while also addressing the increasing complexities of the modern world, including issues like cyberbullying.

Fadhlina reflected on her dual roles as an education minister and a mother, expressing concern for the well-being of all children. She stressed that the responsibility for shaping children's futures cannot be left solely to educational institutions but must involve active parental participation.

In terms of Malaysia's performance in PISA 2025, there were improvements in the Science and Reading domains, with scores rising to 419 and 393, respectively. However, there was a decline in Mathematics performance, which fell to 397. The PISA 2025 assessments were conducted from April 22 to May 30, involving 7,624 15-year-old students from 157 schools across Malaysia.
