MCE Unveils RM50 Mln Automotive Electronics Manufacturing Hub In Serendah

Serendah: MCE Holdings Bhd (MCE) today officially launched the MCE Auto Hub, a RM50 million advanced manufacturing facility in UMW High Value Manufacturing Park, Serendah, that will strengthen the group's design, engineering, manufacturing and research and development capabilities. In a statement today, MCE said the 5.52-hectare MCE Auto Hub forms the first phase of its long-term investment plan of up to RM200 million and will more than double the group's production capacity, strengthening its capabilities in automotive electronics and next-generation mobility solutions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani officiated the launch. MCE chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat, Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry's deputy Secretary-General (industry) Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) chairman Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid and its chief executive officer (CEO) Azrul Reza Aziz were present at the event. Other dignitaries include Malaysian Investment Development Authority deputy CEO (investment development) Zuaida Abdullah and the Yang Dipertua of Majlis Perbandaran Hulu Selangor, Julaihah Jamaludin.

With more than three decades in the industry, MCE has evolved into a Malaysian tier-1 automotive electronics supplier with full original equipment manufacturing and original design manufacturing capabilities, supporting customers across design, development and production, the statement said. Johari remarked that the investment is a significant step in the development of Malaysia's automotive industry and reflects confidence in both MCE Holdings and Malaysia's future. He emphasized the importance of local suppliers pursuing manufacturing excellence by cultivating engineering expertise, innovation, and technology in a competitive industry.

MCE group managing director Dr Goh Kar Chun emphasized the company's continued investment in strengthening its capabilities since its first contract to supply remote alarms and central locking systems to the domestic market in 1990. Over the years, MCE expanded its portfolio from traditional automotive components into more advanced automotive electronics and mechatronic solutions, serving customers across Malaysia, ASEAN, and the United States.

The MCE Auto Hub, designed as an Industry 4.0-ready manufacturing hub, incorporates clean room production areas and tightly controlled manufacturing environments required for advanced automotive electronics for internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicles (EVs). With the hub operational, the group employs a 680-strong workforce, including 90 engineers across its operations in Johor Bahru, Port Klang, and Serendah, enhancing its ability to support a growing portfolio of programmes across both ICE and EV segments, according to the statement.

The investment aligns with the government's aspirations to strengthen Malaysia's advanced manufacturing capabilities and encourage greater participation in higher-value activities across the automotive ecosystem. MCE believes the future of Malaysia's automotive industry will be built through stronger collaboration between carmakers, tier-1 suppliers, and local ecosystem players, including semiconductor and electrical and electronics companies. Working together, opportunities can be created for Malaysian-developed technologies to be integrated into automotive applications and supply chains, while strengthening Malaysia's position as a regional hub for automotive electronics.

The MCE Auto Hub will serve as MCE's primary manufacturing and engineering hub, enhancing the group's designing capabilities, developing and manufacturing high-value automotive electronics and mechatronic solutions for customers across Malaysia, ASEAN, and international markets.
