Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s palm oil exports experienced a substantial rise of 25.6 per cent, reaching 1.39 million tonnes in May, compared to 1.10 million tonnes in April. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) released these figures in its latest industry performance report, indicating strong export growth.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the country’s production of crude palm oil (CPO) also saw an increase, with a 5.1 per cent growth in May, producing 1.77 million tonnes, up from 1.69 million tonnes in the previous month. Additionally, the palm kernel output rose by 2.8 per cent to 420,658 tonnes from April’s 409,097 tonnes.
The report highlighted a significant rise in crude palm kernel oil production, which jumped 19.2 per cent to 210,512 tonnes, compared to 176,644 tonnes in April. Palm kernel cake output showed a 20.1 per cent increase, reaching 231,568 tonnes from 192,857 tonnes. On the inventory front, the CPO stockpile increased by 4.8 per cent to 1.10 million tonnes in May, while processed palm oil stocks rose by 9.0 per cent to 888,343 tonnes.
MPOB’s data also revealed that total palm oil inventories in May climbed to 1.99 million tonnes from April’s 1.87 million tonnes. Export figures showed a notable surge in palm kernel oil exports, which went up by 20.7 per cent to 119,182 tonnes, and palm kernel cake exports, which improved by 37.3 per cent to 193,328 tonnes.
Oleochemical exports rose by 6.0 per cent to 232,683 tonnes, while biodiesel exports saw a significant increase of 39.3 per cent, reaching 32,848 tonnes. It was noted that no CPO imports were recorded in May, with palm kernel oil imports decreasing by 43.5 per cent to 8,074 tonnes.
