Kuala lumpur: Malaysia cannot afford to fall behind in mastering artificial intelligence (AI), which is central to human capital development and national competitiveness, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. The prime minister emphasized the importance of acquiring new skills and technologies to ensure Malaysia remains resilient in the face of global digital transformation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the prime minister highlighted the critical need for the implementation of 5G and AI technologies, warning that without them, Malaysia’s progress will be slow and lagging. He expressed concern that without these advancements, future generations might miss out on better job opportunities due to a lack of enhanced skills, intelligence, and competencies. Anwar Ibrahim made these remarks during the launch of the CD:NXT programme organized by CelcomDigi Bhd.
The event also saw the presence of other notable figures, including Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and CelcomDigi chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi. Anwar emphasized that AI and digital transformation should help bridge the digital divide among Malaysians, particularly between those in urban areas and the underserved in cities, villages, and remote regions.
Despite the potential benefits, Anwar cautioned that the mere adoption of computers and new technologies does not necessarily lead to higher productivity unless accompanied by efforts to improve workforce skills. He called for a focus on enhancing the capabilities of the Malaysian people, emphasizing the importance of training and innovation to truly benefit national development.
The CD:NXT initiative by CelcomDigi aims to nurture future talent in line with Malaysia’s aspirations to become an economy driven by 5G and AI technologies, further aligning with the prime minister’s vision for the country’s digital future.
