Petaling jaya: Malaysia is set to play a pivotal role in advancing the ASEAN Framework for Integrated Semiconductor Supply Chain through platforms like the upcoming ASEAN Semiconductor Summit (ASEMIS) 2025. The nation is committed to enhancing the region’s contribution to global tech security, as stated by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Zafrul emphasized the strategic position ASEAN holds in the global semiconductor industry due to its capacity and neutrality. He expressed confidence that ASEMIS 2025 will foster increased collaboration between the public and private sectors, further bolstering the growth momentum of the semiconductor industry within the region.
The inaugural ASEMIS, scheduled to take place in Petaling Jaya tomorrow, is organized by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in partnership with the Malaysian Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA). The summit, themed ‘Shaping the Future of ASEAN’s Semiconductor Industry’, aims to establish ASEAN as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, technological security, and innovation.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to deliver a keynote address at the one-day event, which will gather around 500 attendees, including policymakers, industry analysts, economists, sovereign fund representatives, and industry leaders from across ASEAN and Asia.
MSIA president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai highlighted the summit’s potential to provide delegates with opportunities to connect with key decision-makers. He noted that such interactions could catalyze business growth through collaborative ventures, driving ASEAN’s regional competitiveness.
The event will feature panel discussions led by industry association leaders from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, focusing on public-private collaborations and enhancing regional cooperation.
