Malaysia, Philippines Commit To Sustained Engagement On Energy Security

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and the Philippines have agreed on the importance of continuous communication for both countries in addressing energy security issues. Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that the primary focus was to ensure clarity and avoid misunderstandings between the nations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, one of the key topics during the online bilateral meeting between the Economy Ministry and the Philippine Department of Energy, led by Secretary Sharon S Garin, was the recent diesel-related transaction by the Philippines. This was clarified to be a commercial transaction between companies, not involving any government-to-government agreement. Such clarification is deemed crucial for maintaining good bilateral relations and ensuring a clear understanding among stakeholders, particularly given the challenging global energy market situation.

Both parties reiterated their commitment to upholding the spirit of ASEAN cooperation amid current global uncertainties. This sentiment reflects the countries' dedication to fostering regional collaboration and addressing energy challenges collectively.

The crisis management team under the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) had earlier denied a report from a Philippine media outlet, which claimed that Malaysia had sent 329,000 barrels of diesel to the Philippines. This denial further emphasizes the importance of accurate communication between the two nations to prevent misinformation and maintain strong diplomatic ties.
