Kuala Lumpur: The country’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, credited their ability to stage a comeback at crucial moments as the key to their success in advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Malaysia Masters. They achieved this by defeating the Thai pair Pichamon Phatcharaphisutsin-Nannapas Sukklad at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the tournament’s third seeds overcame Pichamon-Nannapas in straight sets, 21-13 and 21-15, in a 37-minute match. This victory allowed them to maintain their momentum in front of the home crowd, following a win against a Hong Kong pair in the first round.
Thinaah shared with reporters that the Thai opponents applied significant pressure, which momentarily caught them off guard. However, the duo managed to stay focused by reminding each other to support their gameplay and each other throughout the match.
Pearly-Thinaah are set to face Indonesia’s fifth-seeded pair, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi, in the quarterfinals. The Indonesian pair secured their spot by defeating Taiwan’s Yan Fei Chen-Liang Ching Sun, 21-13, 21-13, in another second-round match.
Pearly emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and sticking to their gameplay, regardless of the opponent’s standing, and discussed their strategies with coaches to keep their concentration intact.
