Kuala Lumpur: The police have received information about the intention of a group of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to organise a rally in the federal capital this Saturday. Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman stated that the organisers of the rally had provided information based on the provisions under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the police are currently in discussions with the rally organisers. The organisers have notified the authorities of their plans, which include a large gathering in Kuala Lumpur. The media previously reported that the secretariat of the Malaysian NGO coalition was targeting more than 15,000 participants for the Himpunan Melayu Berdaulat (Sovereign Malay Rally) near the Sogo Complex.
The rally is scheduled to begin at 2.30 pm and aims to address concerns about the eroding interests of the Malay-Muslims. The police are still in the process of coordinating with the rally organisers to ensure that the event proceeds in accordance with legal provisions and public safety considerations.
