Malaysia Day 2025 Celebration Set for PICCA Convention Centre in Butterworth

Butterworth: The Malaysia Day 2025 celebration is slated to take place at the PICCA Convention Centre Arena Butterworth on September 16, featuring a variety of programmes to commemorate the event, stated Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The celebration will commence at 8.30 pm and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysia Day celebrations have been held in various types of venues previously, such as Padang Merdeka in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah last year, and Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching, Sarawak two years ago. This year, the Cabinet’s decision to rotate the hosting of the Malaysia Day celebration among Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia aims to enhance ties between the states and instill a greater sense of unity and patriotism.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil disclosed this information after presiding over the Malaysia Day 2025 Celebration Main Committee Meeting with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the Komtar building. The meeting also saw the presence of Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Penang state secretary Datuk Zulkifli Long, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and other senior officials from the Communications Ministry and Penang state government.

Fahmi Fadzil mentioned his scheduled visit to the PICCA Convention Centre to evaluate the venue and review preparations, including the programme content and schedule. Additionally, he has directed the Information Department and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to organize a series of events in conjunction with National Month, aiming to energize and enrich the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations for the local community.

Prominent figures expected to attend the celebration include Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Earlier, during his two-day working visit to Penang, Fahmi paid a courtesy call on Chow at the Chief Minister’s Office in Komtar.

On June 11, Fahmi had announced that this year’s Malaysia Day celebration would occur in Penang, aligning with the practice of rotating the annual event among Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia.
