Malaysia and Sri Lanka to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation Amid ASEAN Meetings

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and Sri Lanka have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, tourism, education, and skilled labour, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This development was discussed during a courtesy visit by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, in conjunction with the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings currently taking place in Kuala Lumpur.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that this strengthened relationship not only benefits both nations but also contributes to regional stability and development. He shared his sentiments in a Facebook post, where he also acknowledged Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts towards shaping a more inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous regional future.

Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to collaborating closely with Sri Lanka to achieve shared progress. He highlighted the importance of this collaboration for the people of both countries and for building a more united, prosperous, and resilient ASEAN community.

The 58th AMM and related meetings, occurring under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 with the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” are hosting 24 ministerial-level meetings. These gatherings involve ASEAN Dialogue Partners, Sectoral Dialogue Partners, and bring together approximately 1,500 delegates, including ASEAN and Timor-Leste Foreign Ministers, ASEAN Regional Forum participants, and senior ASEAN Secretariat officials.
