Shah Alam: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has allocated RM4.68 million to provide pocket money to 15,613 underprivileged students as part of the ‘Agihan Fidyah MAIS Wang Saku Pelajar 2025’ initiative.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MAIS chairman Datuk Salehudin Saidin revealed that the fidyah collection, an obligatory payment for Muslims who are unable to fast during Ramadan, has been strategically distributed. A sum of RM1.83 million was designated for public and private higher education institutions, and RM1.5 million was directed to the state Education Department.
Additionally, RM1.05 million was allocated to the state Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), with RM300,000 going to the Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE). The initiative involves a one-off distribution of RM300 per recipient, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal of zero hunger, to ensure students from underprivileged families receive adequate nutrition to support their academic and personal well-being.
Datuk Salehudin highlighted these efforts during the launch event for the pocket money distribution initiative. MAIS also mentioned in a statement that this initiative targets specific beneficiary groups in collaboration with fidyah distribution strategic partners (RSAFM) to efficiently identify and aid eligible recipients.
The council emphasized that utilising public fidyah contributions optimally ensures maximum benefit for those in need. Last year, in 2024, MAIS distributed RM4.84 million to assist 16,139 students across Selangor who met the eligibility requirements.
