Serdang: Preparations for the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 are about 80 percent complete, with full readiness expected by August 27, just a day before the public opening. This announcement was made by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu at a press conference following a site inspection.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the main infrastructure at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) has been finished, with remaining tasks focused on setting up exhibition areas. The exhibition, running from August 28 to September 6, aims to highlight advancements in the agriculture sector through technology and innovation under the theme 'Penciptaan Nilai Demi Keterjaminan Makanan.' The event will be officially opened by Mohamad and closed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on September 6.
Among the technologies to be presented are modern agricultural machinery, automated vehicles, and the use of drones for crops like paddy, pineapple, and melon. Mohamad highlighted that these innovations echo practices in countries such as China and Holland, where agriculture is highly modernized.
This year's MAHA will also focus on enhancing the value chain in the agri-food sector, encouraging farmers and breeders to engage in downstream activities for higher added value. Products like milk, pineapple, and cassava offer opportunities for local entrepreneurs in the value chain.
Additionally, MAHA 2026 will feature Perkampungan Abang Mat, showcasing communal cooking, food heritage, and traditional games, providing a diverse experience for visitors. Daily activities, including traditional games like congkak, are planned to offer a relaxing environment, especially for senior citizens.
Visitors can participate in daily lucky draws with prizes including motorcycles and electrical appliances. The exhibition is expected to draw over four million visitors and 2,000 exhibitors, with participation from 14 countries. Kenya will have a pavilion for the first time, allowing international participants to showcase technologies and explore collaborations with Malaysia.
To engage youth, approximately 800,000 are expected to attend programs focused on automation and modern agriculture. The ministry is also seeking approval to involve school students through co-curricular programs.
