MAF Commits to Cooperation in Investigation of Cadet Officer’s Death

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Defence and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) have announced their decision to fully cooperate with the authorities following a Shah Alam High Court directive to exhume the body of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Reserve Officers Training Unit (PALAPES) cadet officer, Syamsul Haris Shamsudin, for a second post-mortem.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin assured that the MAF is committed to assisting in the investigation to ensure justice for Syamsul Haris. The Ministry will keep a close watch on the case and allow the authorities to complete the investigation in adherence to legal principles.

Syamsul Haris, aged 22, passed away at Kota Tinggi Hospital on July 28 after participating in training at the Battle Inoculation Shooting Range, Army Combat Training Centre in Ulu Tiram, Johor. He was laid to rest at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Cemetery in Semenyih the following day.

The order for exhumation was issued by the Shah Alam High Court after Syamsul Haris’s mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, submitted an application on August 19, requesting a second post-mortem and an inquest into her son’s death.
