KPKT to Launch Public Cleansing Reform Under 13th Malaysia Plan

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) is set to introduce the Public Cleansing Reform under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), marking a significant shift in the national cleaning management landscape. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming announced that the initiative would focus on dust-free road efforts, the deployment of electric vehicles for night cleaning operations, and the implementation of a Single Window Payment Monitoring System.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to table the 13MP in Parliament, with the Public Cleansing Reform as one of its core pillars. Minister Nga emphasized the necessity for the cleaning sector to embrace technological advancements to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. His remarks were part of a speech delivered at the 2025 Cleaners’ Day Appreciation Ceremony, an event organized by the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) to honor cleaning personnel’s contributions.

Minister Nga proposed making the Cleaners’ Day Appreciation Ceremony an annual event to continue recognizing the dedication of cleaning workers across the country. He stressed the noble nature of their work and encouraged society to shift its perception, offering due respect to the sector. On the enforcement front, he highlighted the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (Amendment) Bill 2025, recently passed in the Dewan Rakyat. This bill allows courts to impose fines and community service orders on individuals found guilty of littering.

Nga urged Malaysians to foster a sense of responsibility towards cleanliness, motivated by love for the country rather than fear of penalties. He called for collective action to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous future. At the same event, SWCorp received recognition from The Malaysia Book Of Records for the ‘Heaviest Bird Structure Made From Recycled Materials,’ symbolizing a notable green innovation in urban landscapes. This initiative is part of SWCorp’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and waste reuse through creative expressions.
