NACSA Nears Completion of Malaysia’s Cybersecurity Strategy for 2025-2030

Kuala lumpur: The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) is in the final stages of completing Malaysia’s Cyber Security Strategy (MCSS) for 2025-2030, as a continuation of the current strategy covering 2020-2024, announced the Ministry of Digital.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the strategy will engage three primary stakeholders: the government, businesses, and the community, ensuring a comprehensive approach to protecting the country’s digital framework.

The ministry emphasized that emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), and associated cybersecurity threats are being considered to safeguard the nation’s digital ecosystem. This update came in response to Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (BN-Sembrong), who raised concerns about national data security and the transparency in the training of AI systems like DeepSeek, as well as the use of Huawei chips.

The Digital Ministry outlined its proactive measures, which include establishing an AI security committee. This committee will review technical aspects and ensure adherence to security and ethical standards, particularly in the assessment of foreign technology. Comprised of experts from both public and private sectors, the committee aims to enhance governance and ensure that AI development and usage in Malaysia are secure, responsible, and in line with national values.

In another development, the Ministry of Digital addressed inquiries from Muhammad Ismi Mat Taib (PN-Parit) regarding the progress of 5G coverage. Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) has reported that the 5G network now covers 82.4 per cent of populated areas, with a total of 7,489 5G sites as of June 30, 2025. The ministry also highlighted that the 5G penetration rate in the country reached 80.4 per cent, with around 27.4 million active subscribers by May 2025, reinforcing Malaysia’s status as a leader in digital connectivity and communication technology transformation.
