KPKT MyKiosk: No Criminal Elements, MACC Focusing On Governance Issues – Azam Baki

Kuala lumpur: There are no criminal elements in the investigation into allegations of corruption and misappropriation related to the MyKiosk construction tender by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. He stated that the MACC’s current investigation revolves around governance issues.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, there has been a misunderstanding in the media suggesting that the MACC is investigating a criminal case. Azam Baki clarified that a preliminary investigation has been conducted, and no criminal elements were found. However, the focus is now on governance issues to provide recommendations to KPKT for improvement. The investigation is ongoing and not yet concluded.

Azam made these remarks at a press conference after witnessing the handover of duties between the new MACC Kelantan director Azmin Yusoff and his predecessor Rosli Husain. He also noted that the MACC has considered the report from MCA Youth and input from KPKT, highlighting the ministry’s cooperation in the investigation. The MACC initiated investigations into the MyKiosk tender following allegations of corruption and misappropriation.

In another matter, commenting on the investigation involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Azam said the MACC plans to apply to the court to forfeit assets worth RM170 million that had been seized. He mentioned that if Ismail Sabri challenges this in court, the trial will proceed. If the forfeiture is successful, the money will become government revenue, as decided by the Public Prosecutor.

Previously, the former Prime Minister was called in multiple times for statement recording sessions regarding asset declarations made to the MACC under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009. Additionally, the Bera Member of Parliament is under investigation for corruption and money laundering related to the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his tenure as Prime Minister from August 2021 to November 2022. The investigation is conducted under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
