KPDN Seizes 244 Bottles Of Counterfeit Alcohol In Raid On Jalan Tun Razak Outlets

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 244 bottles of counterfeit alcohol worth over RM100,000 from two entertainment premises in Jalan Tun Razak last Thursday. A local man, the manager of both outlets, was arrested to assist with the investigation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the raid followed a public complaint alleging that the premises were selling counterfeit alcoholic beverages. It was discovered that the alcohol tax stamps on the bottles contained no relevant information. Kuala Lumpur KPDN director Mohd Sabri Seman revealed that the counterfeit bottles used original registered trademarks under the Trade Marks Act 2019 (Act 815).

The authorities also confiscated several business documents during the raid. Each bottle of the counterfeit alcohol was reportedly sold at prices ranging from RM400 to RM500, leading to a total seizure value of RM104,918.00. An investigation has been initiated under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trade Marks Act 2019, and KPDN is examining the counterfeit alcohol tax stamps under Section 5(1)(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
