Kuala Lumpur: Six highways and 25 main roads around the Klang Valley will be closed in stages from Friday until May 28, in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit, to ensure smooth traffic flow. Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri announced that the closures would include routes to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Subang, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Istana Negara, and the accommodation hotels.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the closure will occur in phases, each lasting 30 minutes, to allow the convoy or motorcade of summit participants and guests from various countries to reach their destinations on time. The public is advised not to park their vehicles along the closed roads to ensure smooth traffic flow. Enforcement actions, including towing, will be taken against vehicles parked on these roads.
Additionally, business and heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the city center from 6.30 am to 7.30 am and from 4.30 am until May 28. Traffic control rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, focusing on convoy control, route control, and location control. These rehearsals aim to inform road users about the upcoming road closures.
A total of 789 JSPT officers and personnel will be assigned to ensure smooth traffic throughout the closure period. The deployment includes 36 patrol cars, 313 high-powered motorcycles, 190 other motorcycles, and tow trucks to remove vehicles obstructing the roads.
