Kuala lumpur: Khazanah Nasional Bhd has announced the selection of two emerging Malaysian artists as the 2025 recipients of the Khazanah Associate Artist Residency Programme (KAAR) at Acme Studios, London, for a 12-week programme next September.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the selected participants for KAAR 2025 are Lee Mok Yee, a multidisciplinary artist based in Kuala Lumpur, and Amar Shahid Salehudin from Terengganu. Mok Yee, 37, who was selected after applying for the third time, expressed his eagerness to engage with London communities and gain access to international platforms. He hopes to share his experiences and foster discussions with fellow Malaysian artists upon returning.
Meanwhile, Amar Shahid, 39, is excited about potential collaborations and learning opportunities at major London museums. He aims to expand his practice by exploring batik and practical photography, aligning with the expertise available in London’s art institutions.
KAAR, along with the Khazanah Wolfson Press Fellowship and the Khazanah Sustainability Leadership pilot programme, aims to equip Malaysian talents with skills and networks for societal and economic contributions. This initiative aligns with Khazanah’s Advancing Malaysia strategy and the Malaysia Investment Strategy framework, focusing on socio-economic outcomes to uplift communities.
Khazanah managing director Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir emphasized the growth opportunities for participants in London, noting the impact on the wider community upon their return. The programme intends to enhance the vibrancy and daring nature of the local art industry.
During their residency, participants will engage in mentorship, workshops, and collaborations, coinciding with Frieze Week for global arts exposure. Upon returning, they will contribute to the local art scene through mentorship, exhibitions, and public programmes, including collaborations with Galeri Khazanah.
