Kelantan Maintains Leadership in Malay Reserve Land Area, Confirms Menteri Besar

Kota bharu: The total area of Malay reserve land in Kelantan has been recorded at 526,083 hectares, accounting for 91.5 percent of the state's land, with 816,020 ownerships as of June this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud disclosed that non-Malay reserve land covers an area of 48,344 hectares, which represents 8.4 percent of the land, involving 43,255 titles. "Based on land administration records up to June 2026, the total area of land ownership in Kelantan is 574,427 hectares, involving 859,275 titles," he stated.

He made these remarks while responding to a query from Datuk Abdul Rahman Yunus (PAS-Pasir Tumboh) concerning the current area of Malay reserve land in Kelantan during the State Legislative Assembly session at the Kota Darulnaim Complex. Mohd Nassuruddin emphasized that Kelantan continues to be the state with the largest Malay reserve land area compared to other states in Peninsular Malaysia.

The adjusted figures for all 11 districts indicate that more than nine-tenths of the total land ownership in the state falls under the Malay reserve category. Gua Musang leads with the largest area of Malay reserve land at 122,735 hectares, followed by Pasir Mas (56,656 hectares), Tanah Merah (56,246 hectares), and Kuala Krai (53,473 hectares). In terms of percentage, Tanah Merah records the highest rate at 99.9 percent, with Tumpat, Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, and Jeli also having significant portions of their land as Malay reserves.

Mohd Nassuruddin also noted that there has been no reduction in the Malay reserve land in Kelantan. The Kelantan Malay Reservations Enactment's Section 13A permits land ownership by non-Malays within the Malay reserve area and grants state authorities the power to regulate transactions in these areas, prohibiting them if they threaten the interests of Malay reserves.
