Kelantan Government Director Faces Imminent Charges for Alleged Corruption: Azam Baki

Kota bharu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is preparing to charge a director from a federal government department in Kelantan with alleged abuse of power, corruption, and false claims. This announcement comes as the official nears retirement.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki revealed that charges will be filed soon following the deputy public prosecutor’s approval of the proposed charges submitted by the Kelantan MACC. Although the director’s name remains undisclosed, Azam mentioned that legal proceedings could commence within two to three weeks, or possibly even earlier.

Azam emphasized that this action is part of Kelantan MACC’s ongoing commitment to addressing issues related to corruption and financial leakages. He highlighted MACC’s strategic focus on resolving these issues, aiming to curb corruption effectively throughout the country.

The announcement was made during a press conference at the handover ceremony for the new Kelantan MACC director, Azmin Yusoff, succeeding Rosli Husain. Azam reflected on his tenure in Kelantan from 1989 to 2000, noting the necessity for new approaches in operations, prevention, and community education to combat corruption.

Azam stressed the importance of impactful measures that resonate with the community to reinforce the MACC’s actions against corruption. He underscored the need for nationwide implementation of these strategies by the commission’s skilled officers and staff.

Further commenting on the prosecution, Azam pointed out the significance of holding a high-ranking official accountable as a cautionary example for public service. He reiterated that the investigation into the case has concluded, with an official announcement forthcoming.
