KDEBWM Boosts MPHS Waste Services With 33 New Compactor Lorries

Hulu selangor: KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has strengthened domestic waste collection services under the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) with the handover of 33 new compactor lorries following the start of its seven-year contract on July 1.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, KDEBWM managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir stated that the lorries, including 18 Isuzu lorries, five Mitsubishi Fuso lorries, and 10 UD Trucks, are equipped with updated specifications. This enhancement aims to improve the efficiency of domestic waste collection and ensure that operations are carried out systematically, safely, and in an environmentally friendly manner under the contract, which will end on June 30, 2033.

Datuk Ramli noted, "We have been entrusted once again to continue providing the service for seven years until 2033. Our first contract with MPHS began in 2018 and ended on June 30." He further explained that compared to the past seven years, where waste collection ranged from 100 to 150 tonnes per day, the current capacity has increased to between 150 and 250 tonnes and could potentially reach up to 300 tonnes daily.

MPHS president Julaiahah Jamaludin, who was present at the handover ceremony, highlighted the financial scope of the MPHS-KDEBWM partnership for domestic waste collection, which covers a seven-year contract worth RM117.2 million, or approximately RM16.7 million annually.

Julaihah also mentioned that MPHS is collaborating with KDEBWM to ensure that industrial waste from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) throughout Hulu Selangor is collected by concession panel companies. She elaborated on the introduction of a door-to-door solid waste collection system initiated on July 1, where KDEBWM contractors collect waste directly from the front of homes or premises according to a set schedule.

In this system, the use of leach bins will be discontinued, and residents are required to provide covered waste bins with a minimum capacity of 120 litres, labelled with their house or lot numbers. All domestic waste must be placed in plastic garbage bags, securely tied, and disposed of in the bin, with the bin lid kept closed at all times to prevent intrusion by stray animals and rainwater.
