JPJ Seizes 291 Goods Vehicles In Enforcement Operations Since Last Year

Negeri sembilan: The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized 291 goods vehicles in enforcement operations from last year until April this year. State JPJ director Jasyindar Singh Shindu detailed that out of the total, 245 vehicles were confiscated under the Road Transport Act (APJ), while 46 were taken under the Land Public Transport Act (APAD).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 562 cases were processed under the APAD Act 2010, with an additional 153 cases recorded from January to April this year. These cases involved offenses such as overloading, violations of operator license conditions, and obstruction of enforcement officers. Jasyindar Singh Shindu shared these details during an overloading operation conducted at Jalan Kuari Labu-Nilai.

For the cases that went to court, seven resulted in fines totaling RM97,000. These included the forfeiture of five vehicles, one case with a fine and conditional temporary release, and another case where the vehicle was released after a fine. Additionally, 13 vehicles were granted temporary release and remain under trial.

Overall, JPJ inspected 52,759 goods vehicles last year, taking action against 13,813. From January to April this year, 14,133 goods vehicles were inspected, with 2,475 subjected to enforcement action in operations across the state.

Jasyindar also highlighted the ongoing challenge posed by 'tontos' or informants, who are paid by certain parties to monitor JPJ operations and provide early warnings to help evade enforcement actions. Lorry drivers often cite the pursuit of higher commissions as a reason for carrying excess loads, as their wages and commissions are determined by the amount of load carried. Most overloaded vehicles typically carry materials such as sand and stones, with two hotspot locations identified in Nilai.
