Johor Collaborates to Replace Over 900 Ageing Hospital Beds at HSA

Johor bahru: A total of 969 out of 1,206 beds at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) have been identified for replacement, with some believed to have been in use since the 1970s. Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon announced the state government’s proactive steps in collaborating with various parties to ensure patient comfort by replacing these ageing beds.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative has made notable progress, with 860 beds donated by corporate entities, non-governmental organisations, and foundations since the beginning of this month. The contributions include a range of beds, catering to intensive care units (ICUs), as well as standard beds for adults, children, and infants.

Ling expressed hopes to complete the replacement of all 969 beds by September, as he addressed reporters during a handover ceremony of donated beds by the Fo Guang Shan Association at the PP1 Female Medical Ward at HSA. Also present at the event was HSA director Dr Mohamad Nizam Subahir.

He noted that the donated beds would be delivered to the hospital in stages due to the current difficulty in obtaining hospital beds locally, which necessitates importing and thus takes time. This phased distribution approach responds to logistical challenges while ensuring that HSA receives the necessary equipment.

Ling also mentioned that this initiative allows the Health Ministry’s funds to be redirected towards other urgent needs, such as upgrading hospital facilities. He emphasized the state government’s role in supporting the hospital as part of a shared responsibility and sincere commitment to public health.
