Ironman World Championship: Vincent Tiew, Syed Saddiq Lead Malaysia’s Challenge

Kuala lumpur: Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew, a prominent property developer, has highlighted his participation in the Ironman series as embodying the discipline and strategy essential for leading any organization. Vincent is set to represent Malaysia at the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Nice, France, on September 14. His journey into triathlons began during the Movement Control Order period in 2022, where he developed skills in swimming and cycling.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Vincent emphasized that the rigorous training provided valuable lessons in discipline, focus, and enhancing both mental and physical fitness. He drew parallels between the demands of triathlon and those of the business and corporate sectors, which also require sustained mental endurance and focus for success.

Vincent remarked, “Triathlon suits me because my temperament, attitude, and personal development demand extensive planning and discipline daily, which is crucial.” He shared his insights with Bernama at a send-off event for the national representatives heading to the 2025 World Championship. Accompanying him in the championship is Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

As the executive director of KL Wellness City, Vincent noted that engaging in the sport has led to personal improvements, allowing him to better manage his emotions, lifestyle, and diet.

Syed Saddiq, on the other hand, dedicates 16 to 17 hours weekly to training, averaging two and a half hours daily. His regimen includes waking up at 5 am for running, cycling, or swimming. He incorporates fitness into his daily routine by conducting online meetings while cycling indoors, reading newspapers during half squats, and listening to podcasts while running.

He stated, “The most significant changes include clearer thinking, improved discipline, early rising, and better handling of life’s pressures. While some turn to food or spending when stressed, I exercise and participate in sports for relief. It’s been a transformative change,” said the former Youth and Sports Minister, who aims to complete the race carrying the Jalur Gemilang in approximately 13 hours, well within the 17-hour limit.

The event was also attended by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
