India-Malaysia Economic Partnership to Unlock Opportunities in Digital and Green Sectors

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and India are poised to explore significant opportunities in renewable energy, infrastructure, semiconductors, and the digital economy as they strengthen their economic ties, according to the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the CIIM celebrated its 20th anniversary and hosted a gala dinner in conjunction with India’s 79th Independence Day. During the event, CIIM President Datuk Umang Sharma highlighted India’s emergence as the world’s fourth-largest economy and Malaysia’s position as a competitive regional hub, emphasizing the solid foundation this creates for collaboration between the two nations.

Sharma pointed out that sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, digital transformation, and advanced manufacturing, particularly in semiconductors and the digital economy, present substantial opportunities for partnership. CIIM, which represents more than 250 Indian companies in Malaysia with investments exceeding US$3 billion and creating over 30,000 jobs, has been serving as a unified platform for Indian businesses in Malaysia since its establishment in 2005.

Looking ahead, CIIM plans to host two major initiatives to further engage Indian companies with Malaysia’s growth roadmap. A seminar titled ‘Exploring Opportunities in Malaysia’s 13th Master Plan’ is scheduled for September 2025, followed by a leadership summit in early 2026. These events aim to bring together business, government, and industry leaders across various fields, focusing on high-potential sectors like semiconductors and digital technologies.

The gala dinner was attended by His Royal Highness Tunku Ali Redhauddin, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti of Negeri Sembilan, and paid tribute to the strengthening India-Malaysia ties and CIIM’s role in fostering bilateral trade and investment.
