Kuala Lumpur: Inclusivity and sustainability should be the cornerstone of Malaysia and ASEAN’s resurgence, by choosing to share prosperity fairly, without leaving anyone behind, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasized the importance of these principles for the region’s future development and prosperity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted that under Malaysia’s chairmanship, the ASEAN bloc is committed to the ASEAN centrality principle. This principle enables free cooperation with major global players such as the United States, China, India, and Europe, without being compelled to take sides or be entangled in external conflicts.
He expressed satisfaction with the conclusion of the Malaysian delegation’s mission to four countries-the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Switzerland. Anwar utilized this mission as an opportunity to reinforce ASEAN’s close relations, which he considers vital for the strength of the region.
During the mission, Anwar observed critical aspects including the strengthening of bilateral relations, attraction of investments, and enhancement of trade. He noted that, despite political complexities, the leadership and people of these countries are primarily focused on economic growth, knowledge culture, skills, expertise, and advancements in artificial intelligence.
Anwar urged that this attitude should be emulated by ASEAN nations, rather than engaging in trivial issues that may lead to division and harm.
