Government Seeks Inclusive Solution for Rice and Padi Issues, Says Mat Sabu

Kuala Lumpur: The government is actively seeking a comprehensive solution to address the challenges related to the local white rice supply and padi purchase prices, according to Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. Mohamad Sabu emphasized the necessity of a win-win outcome that considers the roles of all stakeholders, including consumers, farmers, millers, and distributors.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Sabu, commonly referred to as Mat Sabu, highlighted the need for additional time to engage thoroughly with the involved parties. He expressed that the government is committed to protecting the interests of each stakeholder, which is why extensive engagements are being conducted.

He further explained that discussions will be held with the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL), which is chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. With the Prime Minister’s approval, the government aims to implement necessary changes to resolve the issues effectively. The minister made these remarks during a press conference following the Amanah National Convention 2024.

Mohamad Sabu also stated that the discussions with the Prime Minister are slated to commence in the first week of the upcoming parliamentary session. He assured that he is ready to address all questions related to the matter during the session. The minister pointed out that the discussions will cover various aspects, such as setting padi prices, understanding rice price fluctuations, and evaluating the impact on the B40 group. These topics will be deliberated with NACCOL to ensure a balanced and fair resolution.
