Haze Issue to Be Discussed by Malaysian PM and Brunei Sultan at Annual Leaders’ Meeting

Bandar seri begawan: The haze issue affecting several areas in the region is expected to be among matters discussed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, in conjunction with the 27th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders' Consultation (ALC-27). Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Datuk Mohd Aini Atan stated that this matter will be one of the current issues of importance to both countries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state of Sarawak is the most affected by the haze issue. The presence of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor during the consultation will ensure that this issue is addressed. Anwar is scheduled to make a two-day working visit to Brunei starting tomorrow to attend ALC-27.

This annual leaders' consultation series serves as the highest-level bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Brunei. It provides a platform for both nations to discuss pressing issues and strengthen their bilateral relations.

Data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal indicates that the Serian area in Sarawak recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at a "very unhealthy" level of 204 as of 5 pm today. Additionally, five other areas in Sarawak recorded "unhealthy" levels, namely Kuching (195), Samarahan (182), Sri Aman (179), Sarikei (158), and Sibu (152).
