KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Malaysia’s Terengganu and Pahang states has seen a slight increase, while conditions in Johor and Perak show signs of improvement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, heavy rainfall in Terengganu led to more evacuations, with 3,951 individuals taking refuge in 12 relief centers this morning, up from 3,778 the previous night. The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the Kemaman district accounted for 3,761 evacuees at eight centers, while Dungun hosted 190 evacuees at four centers. Additionally, water levels have surpassed warning markers at Sungai Kemaman and risen above alert levels at Sungai Nerus.
In Pahang, the Jerantut district noted an increase in flood victims, now at 40 individuals across two relief centers, compared to 34 the previous night. The centers are located at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Teh and SK Tebing Tinggi.
In Perak, the situation remains stable with 34 evacuees located at the Kampung Teluk Kepayang Community Hall
in Bota, Perak Tengah, a figure unchanged since December 2. The Drainage and Irrigation Department has issued alerts to residents in eight villages near Sungai Perak, Sungai Kenderong, Sungai Kenering, Sungai Rui, and Sungai Air Tawar, warning of continued rainfall over the next three days.
Johor has maintained a steady number of 139 evacuees, with 54 individuals at the SK Simpang Lima Darat center in Tangkak and 85 at two centers in Segamat. In Segamat, the Kampung Batu Badak Community Hall is housing 40 people, while the Kampung Tasek Community Hall accommodates 45. Water levels in Sungai Muar have exceeded warning levels at two points, with readings at Kampung Awat and Buloh Kasap.
