Fahmi Advises New Music Talents to Understand Legal Rights Before Signing Contracts

Kuala lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has emphasized the importance for emerging music talents to obtain basic legal knowledge about their rights before signing contracts with record labels. He underscored this need during his speech at the launch of Bintang Suara Melilea 2026, highlighting the potential issues that could arise if singers and music practitioners enter the industry without this knowledge.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi pointed out that music talent development should extend beyond merely discovering new talents. It should include providing guidance, support, and foundational professional training to help artists establish sustainable careers. "I hope that through this programme, we are not merely discovering young people and new talents, whom we regard as unpolished diamonds that need to be polished, nurtured, educated, advised, and supported," Fahmi said.

Fahmi also noted that technological advancements and digital platforms have opened up more avenues for emerging talents to promote themselves independently, reducing their reliance on traditional media like television and radio. He expressed his commitment to supporting the programme and providing a larger platform for emerging talents in the coming years.

While Malaysia's music industry lacks a dedicated ministry, the Communications Ministry remains closely connected to the sector through its involvement with broadcasting. Fahmi highlighted that developing local talents could stimulate economic growth and create more opportunities for entrepreneurs in the country.

Bintang Suara Melilea 2026, an initiative under the corporate social responsibility programme of MELILEA (M) Sdn. Bhd., aims to discover, nurture, and empower new talents among the younger generation and will run until October 10.
