Kuala Lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today invited more Uzbek companies and investors to explore the Malaysian market. He said Malaysia, which is chairing ASEAN in 2025, is ready to serve as a strategic hub for businesses looking to expand across Southeast Asia, offering access to a dynamic and rapidly growing region.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, stated the Malaysian government is fully committed to fostering stronger private sector collaboration, particularly in areas of mutual benefit and strategic alignment. Similarly, Uzbekistan’s abundant natural resources and central geographic position make it an attractive destination for Malaysian investments in sectors such as mining, agriculture, logistics, and industrial development, he added.
Fadillah highlighted Malaysia’s strength in high-value manufacturing, digital economy, and green technology, presenting significant opportunities for collaboration with Uzbekistan, particularly in the areas of electronics, renewable energy, and smart infrastructure. These remarks were made during his opening speech at the Malaysia-Uzbekistan Business Forum 2025.
On the other hand, Fadillah noted that Malaysian companies are recognizing Uzbekistan’s market potential, with growing investments and interests in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and education. He emphasized that these ventures not only reinforce bilateral economic ties but also contribute to broader regional connectivity and shared prosperity.
Trade between Malaysia and Uzbekistan, although modest, is on a positive trajectory, Fadillah observed. Trade increased from approximately US$58.4 million in 2020 to US$80.9 million in 2024. Malaysia’s exports, valued at US$79.9 million, included products such as palm oil, edible preparations, electronic components, and pharmaceuticals, reflecting a growing diversification of traded goods.
The one-day forum was organized by Malaysia-Uzbekistan Business Alliance and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade.
