KUALA LUMPUR: The employability rate of students with special educational needs (MBPK) has reached 93 per cent this year, the Dewan Negara was told today. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said that this includes students who pursue further education or enter the workforce after completing school.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh highlighted that to maintain this high level of employability, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has been working in collaboration with private companies and government agencies. This partnership aims to provide opportunities for individuals with special educational needs to explore various career paths that align with their abilities and interests. Wong shared these insights while responding to a supplementary question from Senator Datuk A. Kesavadas.
In response to Senator Isaiah D. Jacob’s inquiry, Wong revealed that as of November 21, approximately 33.7 per cent or 2,405 out of 7,147 schools accommodating special needs students have be
en equipped with facilities that are friendly to disabled individuals. He further mentioned that this year, the MOE allocated RM13.6 million to 616 schools across the nation. This funding is part of a programme, introduced under the 2024 Budget Initiative, aimed at enhancing the quality of education for special needs students by providing disabled-friendly facilities.
