East Coast States Poised for Future Tech Development, Says MOSTI

Kuala Terengganu: The states on the East Coast, including Terengganu, have significant potential for involvement in future technology development, according to the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Chang Lih Kang. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Science Week (MSN) 2025 Carnival for the East Coast Zone, Chang highlighted the strategic investment opportunities in fields such as the carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) industry, which is set to take root in Terengganu.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chang emphasized that these investments not only create new economic opportunities but also necessitate the development of specific skills among the local workforce. He underscored the importance of empowering youth talent to integrate into the value chain of the country’s burgeoning high-tech sector.

Chang further noted that the increasing foreign and domestic investments in high-tech industries reflect investor confidence in the MADANI government’s administration and policies. He stressed the need for Malaysia to ensure that the supply of skilled talent meets industry demands. The federal government, he added, is committed to a development approach that is just and balanced, irrespective of political affiliations, ensuring continued attention and resources for East Coast states like Terengganu in areas such as investment, education, and the promotion of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

MOSTI, Chang stated, is keen to foster active collaboration among the state government, educational institutions, the private sector, and community organizations to advance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) talent development and innovation. He emphasized that only through comprehensive cooperation can Malaysia forge a future grounded in knowledge, technology, and sustainability.

The MSN 2025 Carnival for the East Coast Zone is a three-day event, running from today until Thursday. Organized by MOSTI through the National Science Centre, the initiative aims to position Malaysia at the forefront of technological and economic transformation. The event seeks to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including school students, higher education students, teachers, researchers, industry players, and the general public.
