Port dickson: The remains of two siblings, who drowned in Sungai Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson, on September 4, were laid to rest at the Maqbarah Salimah Cemetery, Taman Intan Perdana, at around 5:30 pm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the funeral arrangements for the eight-year-old girl and six-year-old boy were managed by the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS). Police presence at the funeral included personnel accompanying a suspect, believed to be the father of the siblings, who remained in a car under strict police supervision.
Port Dickson police chief Maslan Udin, along with JHEAINS officers, attended the funeral, which was also witnessed by several local residents. Earlier, Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad noted that the state Syariah High Court had declared the two siblings as Muslims, directing JHEAINS to handle the funeral process.
On September 5, Alzafny revealed that police had been alerted about a Nissan car sliding into Sungai Tanjung Agas, trapping a boy and a girl inside, at 11:45 am on September 4. Investigations concluded that the children, from Shah Alam, Selangor, likely drowned after being trapped inside the vehicle.
Alzafny also mentioned that a 46-year-old man, suspected to be the children’s father, along with his 41-year-old girlfriend, was remanded for seven days starting September 5, to aid the investigation into the children’s deaths. The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
At the cemetery, an individual named Ade Mos, 47, mourned the siblings, expressing deep sorrow over their loss. He shared that despite knowing the family’s children for just a week, their cheerful and friendly nature left a lasting impression on him.
Ade Mos recounted moments spent with the siblings, including a fishing trip where they were curious and asked numerous questions about the fish. Although brief, their time together created a profound connection, he stated.
