KUANTAN: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has urged the populace to uphold the Malay language as the National Language, emphasizing its significance beyond mere communication.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sultan highlighted that the Malay language symbolizes the nation’s cultural identity and sovereignty, serving as a medium to showcase the community’s heritage, customs, and traditions globally. He noted that Pahang has taken proactive measures since 2020 by enforcing the use of the Malay language and Jawi script in business premises and road signs, reflecting the state’s commitment to preserving its identity. The Sultan made these remarks during the inauguration of a new mosque in Kampung Rengai, Lipis.
Al-Sultan Abdullah called on residents, particularly business operators and tourism industry workers, to support and adhere to these regulations. He stressed the importance of embracing the Malay language and Jawi script as a sign of respect for national
heritage, cautioning against the over-adoption of foreign languages and cultures.
Additionally, the Sultan advised Pahang residents to prepare for the Northeast Monsoon, which could bring heavy rains, floods, and strong winds. He emphasized the importance of early preparation to mitigate risks and urged residents to heed weather warnings and protect vulnerable family members. The Sultan concluded by expressing hope for divine protection for the state during these challenges.
