Decision on Sabah’s 40% Revenue Claim Under MA63 Expected Before Malaysia Day

Kota kinabalu: The decision regarding Sabah’s 40 percent revenue claim under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is anticipated to be concluded ahead of the Malaysia Day celebration on September 16. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof confirmed that the Sabah government had proposed solutions for the claim during a special meeting of the Technical Committee under the MA63 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), which took place at Menara Kinabalu.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah, who chairs the committee, announced that the proposed solutions would be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before the next MTPMA63 meeting, slated for September 12 in Kuala Lumpur. He noted that the meeting would decide on the appropriate course of action, which could include an interim solution. The committee must also consider the ongoing legal proceedings initiated by the Sabah Law Society concerning the revenue claim.

Fadillah highlighted the legal challenges that impede the finalization of a solution without a court decision. However, he emphasized the pursuit of a resolution outside the court’s jurisdiction. He conveyed these remarks to the press after leading the committee meeting at Menara Kinabalu.

The meeting saw the participation of key figures, including Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick. Jeffrey commented that the session was productive, with the Sabah government submitting proposals related to the revenue claim, which are set to be further evaluated by the MTPMA63.
