Sarawak GOF Seizes RM1.6 Million in Contraband, Nine Detained Over Five-Day Operation

Sarawak: The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) successfully seized contraband valued at RM1.6 million during a series of six raids conducted under Operation Taring across multiple districts in the state over the span of five days.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, SAC Dr. Che Ghazali Che Awang, the commander of the operation, highlighted the collaborative efforts of the intelligence and infantry units from the 10th and 11th PGA Battalions. This joint operation resulted in the arrest of nine individuals, aged between 24 and 62, including one Indonesian national.

On July 7, a 40-year-old local man was apprehended in Bau when 350 boxes of frozen food lacking valid permits, valued at approximately RM209,600, were discovered in his lorry. The following day, in Sibu, the GOF raided a premises resulting in the arrest of two men, a local and an Indonesian, aged 24 and 40, respectively. The raid led to the seizure of 238 kilograms of frozen food, a forklift, and a vehicle, with a total estimated value of RM479,099.

Further operations on July 9 saw the arrest of a 34-year-old local man in Lundu for transporting diesel without authorization, leading to the confiscation of 230 liters of diesel and 10 jerrycans, valued at RM81,155.50. On the same day in Kota Samarahan, two local men, aged 26 and 32, were detained for possessing 18,000 liters of diesel without a permit, resulting in the seizure of the diesel, 17 IBC tanks, and a tanker lorry, with an estimated value of RM218,840.

On July 10, a raid in Kuching led to the seizure of 4,500 liters of diesel, 13 IBC tanks, two skid tanks, 25 PVC hoses, two pump engines, and a tanker lorry. Two local men, aged 28 and 33, were arrested, and the seized items were valued at RM381,060. Lastly, on July 11 in Bau, a 62-year-old local man was detained for carrying 4,032 boxes of medicines and herbs without approval from the Ministry of Health Malaysia in a 4WD vehicle.
