DAPSY Prioritizes Youth-Centric Candidates for Johor and Negeri Sembilan Elections

Johor bahru: The DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) will not propose any specific quota or percentage of candidates from its wing for the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Woo Kah Leong, the DAPSY National Executive Committee chairman, emphasized that the main focus is to ensure candidates who understand youth aspirations and can address issues important to young voters are put forward. Woo highlighted the importance of candidates having the mindset to tackle youth unemployment and the willingness to consider the abolition of the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU) 1971, among other issues.

Woo, who also serves as the Pasir Bedamar assemblyman, shared these insights with reporters after attending a DAPSY dinner with media representatives. He was responding to questions about the preparations and expectations for candidates that the wing plans to present in the state elections.

Additionally, Woo addressed concerns regarding the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) recognition and its potential impact on voter sentiment in both states. He stated that the issue should be viewed in the context of national education interests rather than as a political tool in the upcoming elections. Woo noted that the commitment to recognize the UEC was part of the Buku Jingga manifesto when DAP was aligned with PAS under the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, and that Barisan Nasional, under former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, had also made similar promises.
