Padang besar: The Perlis State Government has announced a significant initiative to build a motor racing circuit in collaboration with Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) of Perlis and ESR Motor, a private company in the state. This project aims to enhance sports development and stimulate economic activities within the region.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah revealed that the circuit would be developed in the Chuping Valley Industrial Estate (CVIA), covering approximately 33 acres of approved land near Padang Besar. The private company, ESR Motor, is set to invest RM20 million for the construction, while the state government will provide the necessary land.
Abu Bakar emphasized that the project is expected to be a catalyst for the motorsports sector in Perlis, providing opportunities for organizing related activities and events. Additionally, it is anticipated to boost sports tourism and create economic benefits for the local community, as well as increase youth participation in motorsports.
The announcement was made following the Special Committee Meeting on the Perlis Integrated Motorsports Hub Proposal at the Seri Putra Complex. The planned circuit will feature various modern motorsports facilities, including a 1.3-kilometre straight track, enhancing its appeal.
Abu Bakar stated that the ground-breaking ceremony is expected in about two months, with the project set to be completed approximately three years after construction begins.
